30 Days of Me

Have you ever felt like something was missing? Something that would make you a much happier, more effective human being? The missing piece of the puzzle to happiness. Today that something smacked me right in the face. I was out to lunch with my cousin and her son along with my children. We try to get together at least once a month as our children are close in age. We chat about many different things, in no particular order as with young children conversations  often get interrupted and never finished. One topic that comes up almost every time we see each other is the importance of self care. We are both moms, her a working mom and myself a current stay at home mom. We both have 3 children, husbands, and a home to care for. We talk about all of these things, but again we always come back to self care. Why? Because it is absolutely vital !If we don’t take care of ourselves who will? Yet that being said , it still somehow ends up on the bottom of my to-do list if it makes it on there at all.

During our lunch today self care came up in conversation again. How important it is, how different a shower and a clean shirt can make you feel. Today I felt amazing. I was showered, put on some make-up and my hair wasn’t in my normal messy bun. As we were leaving the restaurant the most crazy thing came to mind. What if, for 30 days, I committed to my own self care. What’s sad is almost immediately my mind flooded with all the reasons this would be silly. I have so much to do, so little time. I then thought back to my conversation with my cousin during lunch. If a little mascara makes me feel great why not. A nice outfit… why not. Could I maybe accomplish more than I goal? Maybe, just maybe more self-care could help me to be a more productive, effective person. Would feeling better help me to be a more loving and giving wife and mother?

I am really good at over complicating things, but for once I’m going to try not to do that. I don’t have a plan, an end goal, a time line, no chart. Just a simple commitment, for 30 days self care is not just on the to-do list, but at the top of my to-do list.  I really have nothing to lose, but I am hoping to gain a lot.
