Becoming my best self

A little over a week ago I decided I needed to commit to making a change .  I needed to stop thinking about it, or kind of working on making a change .  The thought hit very suddenly .  I was trying to enjoy a bath with a book.  While the hot water and quiet was great I was not really present in the moment.  I was thinking about all the things I needed to do,  and my book was on personal finance .  The book is actually a really good book,  but why was I reading it in the bathtub ?? Yes it was a quiet time to read,  but instead of reading a fun magazine or book,  I was reading a book that I bought to address my shortcomings . It was in that moment I decided that I needed to do something .

I decided it wasn’t going to happen overnight.  I needed to figure out what areas of my life needed some improvements as well as what I was already good at.  I am turning 30 this year and I want to start my 30s better than my 20s. I have come a long way,  but my journey to becoming my best self was far from over.

I knew that each area of my life that I wanted to improve would take some time.  I decided to put the areas in order, while understanding that I would continously be working on all areas the whole time just focusing on improvements a little at a time.  No crash and burn.  So steady improvement that will last. This was going to be a life style change.

I decided to pick four main categories .  The order I put them is based off two factors ,  what I consider my biggest weaknesses ,  and how things will flow together .  I decided to work on being a better homemaker ,  better with my finances ,  a better wife,  and a better mother.  The reason that wife and mother are last on my list are not that they are last in my life,  it’s for the exact opposite reason .  I  am always constantly working to be a better wife and mother no matter what else I am trying to do . Those too areas will never be neglected no matter what I’m working on.  I know that being a better homemaker and better with my finances will help make me a better wife and mother .  Being able to fully enjoy an outting with my family and not thinking about the cost because I planned well or the laundry that needs to be done will make me a more present , happy, and less stressed wife and mother.  I added wife and mother to my list because while I know I am a good wife and mother,  I want to be the best I can be because my family deserves my best self,  not just my good self.

February 1st I will officially kicking off my project .  I plan to spend the next few days making a detailed plan of action. Listing my current strengths and weaknesses and forming a plan to improve .  Instead of vague statements I will be writing exact plans.

My family deserves to have me at my best,  and I deserve to be my best.
