Turkey and Sausage Meatballs

Ground Turkey is one of my favorite go to ingredients. It is good in tacos, meatloaf, burgers…the list goes on. I especially like it in my Turkey sausage meatballs. Ground Turkey is easy to work with and really absorbs whatever you flavor it with. Because I buy lean ground Turkey (93/7) I don’t feel so guilty adding pork sausage.

They are really easy. Mix the ingredients, pop them in the oven, then put in your favorite sauce. I put them in my homemade marinara. For my recipe I start the sauce in the crockpot then about 3 hours before serving put the meatballs iin the oven for an hour then add to the sauce until I’m ready to serve. You can skip the oven if you put the meatballs in when you start your sauce, but I feel likje thgthgey hold their shape better if you bake them first. Make sure before you eat your meat iis fully cooked. (Please see Safe Minimum Internal Temperature Chart)
Here’s how to make the meatballs:

If making your own marinara start this in about 6-8 hours before you plan to eat.

Into your crockpot add:

3 28 oz cans crushed tomatoes

2 14 oz cans diced tomatoes

You don’t have to add many seasonings because the meat will add flavor to the sauce but I added about 2 tablespoons each of garlic, minced onion, and Italian seasoning.
About 3 hours before you are eating make the meatballs:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees f

In a large mixing bowl add:

1 package ground Turkey ( approximately 19 oz)

1 roll of your favorite pork sausage

1/2-1 cup oats ( I like a lot so I add a full cup)

2 eggs

Just like with the sauce you don’t need a lot of seasonings but I added about 1 tablespoon each of garlic, minced onion, and Italian seasoning.

Mix together ingredients and roll into small-medium sized meatballs. Place onto pan and Cook for 60 minutes.

Once cooked remove from oven and transfer into sauce and stir.

About 5 minutes before serving remove lid from crockpot to allow sauce to thicken.
Enjoy!
