Homemade Marinara sauce is another favorite in my household . I use sauce for all kinds of things. I used to purchase jarred sauce all the time . I stopped using it over the summer after my nursing baby was diagnosed with allergic colitus . He currently can’t have dairy or soy. To my surprise a lot of jarred sauces have soybean oil. Now some argue that soybean oil won’t cause a reaction but I just decided to avoid it. I’m glad I did because homemade sauce is easy and absolutely fabulous .
I make mine in a crockpot because with a baby and a toddler it’s hard to watch a simmering pot on the stove .
Ingredients :
3-28 oz cans crushed tomatoes
2-14 oz cans diced tomatoes
3 tbsp dried minced onion
3 tbsp garlic powder
3 tbsp Italian seasoning
Salt and Pepper to taste (unless you are using low or no sodium tomatoes I recommend waiting until after you cook to add salt)
Optional :
1/4 cup sugar
I don’t personally add sugar. However if you are used to store bought tomato sauce you may want to add it because most store bought sauce is sweetened . I started making it with sugar then eventually cut it out.
If you have fresh garlic and onion you can use in place of the dried seasonings . The sauce will be a little more chunky. Very yummy, but does take a few more steps.
Directions:
Add ingredients to crockpot.
Cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
This sauce is super easy and delicious . I use it in a number of receipes like meatballs , with pasta or ravioli , and homemade pizza.
Sounds yummy!!
