This is one of my absolute favorite food finds.
I was so fortunate that my local Aldi was selling them for $10.99.
Whole turkeys are absolutely cheaper per pound and as I’ve shared before they are a huge staple for me.
However they also are not the most convenient meal to prep if you have a busy schedule because you have to plan time to thaw and a few hours to cook. You cannot simply take them out of the freezer and cook.
There are very few meats you can easily pull from the freezer and cook (in my experience)
These can cook straight from the freezer.
You need to have some time available to cook as they do take a little bit of time from frozen but you don’t need to plan too far ahead.
However, when I plan ahead I have a way to cook that I prefer.
I like to make them in my slow cooker.
I take out of the freezer and thaw because technically you should not be putting raw uncooked frozen meat into a slow cooker.
Do people do it anyway… yes.
Do I… no. I don’t like to take chances on food safety.
Once thaw I discard the gravy packet, remove the netting and toss in my slow cooker and cook on low until its reached temperature. I usually cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
It’s great with just butter and seasonings.
It’s amazing with a bottle of restaurant style Italian dressing. I pour the entire bottle in and do nothing else except wait for it to cook. Even my three year old who is as most three year olds a tid bite more picky about his meals eats this meal.
If you wanted a creamy sauce you could add cream cheese before serving. If you wanted to really get fancy you could also toss in some spinach.
I usually keep it basic and slice it up and serve with a simple side.
