Making our home our own

Our first home was in Onset Massachusetts. It was a tiny beach house that despite its small size had one possibility two additions.

When I first saw it the paint colors were….let’s just saw not my preference. Peach walls…dark cabinets…. Robin’s egg blue ceiling.

Nothing a little love and hard work couldn’t fix.

I spent weekends painting that house with my mother in law. We gave our beach beach a true beach house feel with various blues like the ocean and sky and sand tones. I even refinished the bathtub.

Our next house in Holliston Massachusetts had belonged to one previous owner who had it custom built. It took four years to change anything. A paint project for my kids bedrooms. One year later we did a bathroom out of necessity ( leaking shower on second floor). Then right before we moved to Florida we finally updated the house to our own preferences. Helped with selling the house but it felt like a waste because we only did it for someone else.

We have been at our new home in Northeast Florida for a year now. Some work has been done to the home…all out of necessity. In January we discovered leaking pipes and the entire house needed to be repiped. Since walls were taking apart and patched back together …opportunity presented itself.

At my request we have not yet painted this walls. Since paint is needed whether to we do the same color or change it.. I thought we should get to know this place better and decide what we wanted it to be.

My bathroom is the first place I am going to start. There are several reasons for this. First … the colors are interesting. I’m not really sure if the wall is brown or orange…broached? Is that even a color? Needless to say it’s not my style.

It’s separated from most of my house. It’s the master bathroom so you only see it if you go through my room to it. If it takes me awhile.. between life, arthritis and the fact it is my first project in years…. it will be good that it isn’t an eye sore as soon as you walk in.

I need a change of scenery. During my miscarriage I spent a lot of time in that bathroom looking at it’s walls. While it’s the same space in the same home… it would be nice to give it a few feel.

After this bathroom I plan to tackle the half bath in the downstairs and the upstairs bathroom my kids use. I’m going for the smaller projects first to get those wins under my belt.

I’m going to do as much work as I can myself. Not paying for labor is a huge financial savings as well as giving me the ownership and pride in the project…. the I did that feeling.

Wish me luck 😊
