Cheap but oh so good eats

Semi Homemade Pull Apart Cheesy Bread

I am all for home cooked, scratch made meal. I love to make things myself, it gives me such a feeling of accomplishment. But sometimes, this busy (and tired) mother of 3 needs something semi homemade. I love semi homemade on a busy day. It gives you the feeling of a totally home cooked meal with a few sort cuts. I used to love that show on the Food Network Semi Homemade. This recipe was inspired by that. A little home cooked, a little cheat. Win win.

I wanted to make something soft for dinner tonight. My oldest got his bottom set of braces on which means a sore mouth. Pull apart bread with some marinara sauce is perfect! I went into Aldi thinking about grabbing (if they had it) something similar I had seem in the freezer section. However I also started thinking that maybe pigs in a blanket would be good. I headed over to the refrigerated case and saw that their crescent roll cans were marked down to 70 cents! Score! I grabbed like 4 and a block of mozzarella cheese but didn’t grab any hot dogs since I was fairly certain we had some at home. Come dinner time I didn’t see any hot dogs. We did have them, I just was looking in the wrong spot (I guess I need to better organize ) and was rushing to get food on the table.  Well I’m glad I didn’t find the hot dogs in time because these were really yummy. Not part of the low carb lifestyle I’ve been trying to follow, but such a good (and cheap) treat.

Ingredients:
2 cans of crescent rolls any brand
1 8 oz block of mozzarella cheese (although any cheese that melts well would be yummy)
Marinara sauce for dipping (home made or store bought)

Directions:

Cut block of cheese into 16 pieces
Open up crescent rolls and lay out (I would do one can at a time)

Place the cheese onto the top of the crescent roll as shown above.

Roll up the crescent roll and tuck the edges over to try to seal all the cheese up inside to help too much cheese from leaking out.

Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Check the package for baking directions. I baked mine at 350 and started at 12 minutes . I needed to add time, which ended up a total of 16 minutes. This happened with both batches. Each time I checked at 12 minutes then added 2 more and checked again.

The only thing that could have made these any better was adding a little garlic butter… I just thought of that now as I was writing this so I will have to try that next time since my family ate the whole batch.

I served these with good old jarred marinara. I usually make my own, but tonight I was so grateful for the couple of jars I keep on hand.

Including the sauce this whole recipe cost about less than $5.

Enjoy!
