Day 3 was a little bit of a mixed day for me. I did try to do some self care, but honestly didn’t feel as accomplished as I had on day 1 and day 2. I did do self care, but it was also day 1 of going back on a restricted diet, and myself and my kids were fighting a cold. Not exactly a recipe for a successful day.
My day started with some black unsweetened tea. It was pumpkin flavored but still didn’t really do it for me. I was excited to go back to eating better, but starting my day without my coffee after allowing myself to have it was hard. I am probably going to rethink this. I cut coffee the first time to try to get down as low as I could in a short time for a weigh in. I was really successful that week, but I think there were a few factors. I honestly think I might give myself just one cup, one cup as my indulgence for the day. I made my kids the pancakes they really wanted for breakfast and didn’t have any myself, I was tempted, but didn’t eat them. Ironically, they didn’t really want them either.
I follow The Flylady and Monday is weekly home blessing hour day. For me it feels more like an all day even but it’s because I break everything down into smaller chunks of time. But Monday is always clean sheet day in my house… even that sometimes spans two days if it takes me another day to take care of the master bedroom. It’s my favorite and least favorite day of the week. I absolutely love the feeling of climbing into a bed with freshly washed sheets, but sometimes getting it down with 2 small people helping can be challenging especially when the laundry area is on a different floor. For awhile I’d strip the beds and just put a different set of sheets on, but there are some sheet sets that just work better and favorite blankets that need to always be on beds so I just do the whole process in one day. I really meant to get to more organizing but that’s just not how the day went.
I realized around 930am that maybe I was dragging because I hadn’t pulled myself together for the day. My goal is to eventually be up long enough before the kids to be all put together before they are even awake, but between the cold I’m fighting and the fact we just turned the clocks ahead made that feel a little too ambitious for me. I got myself dressed, threw on a little make up and brushed my hair. I will say I instantly felt a little better. I went downstairs worked on a few more things. Mondays we usually go to a playgroup at the local library but my little guy wasn’t feeling well. He feel asleep in my lap so we decided not to spread our germs and just rest. I let him sleep on me, I figured he could use the cuddling, and I could use the excuse to just sit for awhile.
The day never took off as a super productive get lots of extra stuff done kind of day. I didn’t really suffer through the diet as I’m pretty used to this kind of eating, but I wanted my coffee desperately. I also wanted something sweet. I discovered some berries and whipped cream (measured out) could really help that craving. Same with blueberry goat cheese. I know not much progress was made eating that stuff, but I didn’t eat the kids pancakes so it was something.
My little guy ended up taking a second long nap on me later in the afternoon, I used the time to sit, chat with my daughter who was getting a turn watching tv, and I watched some videos on my laptop and looked up the weather…. 3rd Noreaster in 2 weeks…. March has been a crazy one and we are only half way into it.
I wish I had gotten a picture of my trip but I did my first couponing trip in awhile. I love couponing, but unfortunately I am a pretty practical person and have realized while there are always great deals to be had, you only need so many bottles of shampoo and personal care items before you need to take a break. I did a lot of couponing end of December and January… and really loved it. But as a filled up my empty space I decided to take a little break and see if the stockpile could work it’s magic. So far so good. Not as much money as some people save but we don’t eat packaged food and not maybe packaged snacks so that limits my savings a bit. Planning a garden to help with our food budget but that’s another post for another day. My couponing trip was to CVS. My husband had a prescription that needed to be picked up, I had extra bucks that were expiring, and some coupons for items on sale that were part of an extrabucks deal. I ran out quickly since my oldest needed to be picked up at his coding class. I was pretty excited, not my best haul, or my best savings, but still a good deal. I’ll probably start couponing more actively again since myself imposed break has passed. Anytime I think I’m getting too into anything I force a break to keep myself in check.
My oldest and I ran into the grocery store near the library. I paid a bit more for the things I wanted to grab ahead of the store, peanut butter, bread, etc. I think we spent as long in line as we spent shopping, apparently everyone else had the same idea as we did.
I will say this, when it was time to climb into bed I was so glad it was clean sheet day, few things make me happier then the feeling of freshly washed sheets.
