New year’s is coming soon and I’m trying to get a head start on my New Year’s resolution . One of my resolutions every year is to try to save more money, to be a little bit more frugal . I’ve made a lot of progress , but I’m sure I can continue to do better.
Have you heard of Aldi? Great chain of stores. If there is one near you you NEED to check them out. They are considered a discount grocery store but don’t let that fool you. They are a great place to shop.
Why am I doing this? Well the simple answer is I’m hoping to save money.
Here is the long answer:
1: the stuff they have is great and seasonal. Right now the store is full of Christmas stuff and it’s fabulous .
2: because it is seasonal it forces me to be creative. At a typical grocery store I can get pretty much what I want whenever I want. that also allows me to eat whatever I want when I want and that’s a habit I think is worth breaking. I could get a watermelon right now at a regular store, not at Aldi. I can however get fresh seasonal produce at great prices .
3. my old plan wasn’t working as well. I was going in person to stores but buying most of my meat in one delivery order. as a result I would spend a lot of my budget at the beginning of the month. Which would be fine but then it left me feeling nervous that I had less resources left for the month. I noticed at the beginning of the next month when my funds were replenished I’d feel relieved and spend more then I should restocking. I wanted to see if weekly shopping would solve that problem .
4. I’ll need to be creative . you can’t always get what you want at Aldi… at least not at mine. I’ve gone in wanting things to find they were out. I am guessing they don’t over stock to reduce waste . I need to be flexible and be able to change my plan if I can’t get what I want.
So let’s see how this goes . I’m optimistic 🙂
